Bachelor’s degree in arts and sciences, communications or human services required. Strong written and oral communications with attention to details. Proven ability to work both independently and in a team setting. Candidate must be flexible, comfortable and competent working with youth, and able to adjust to evolving project demands. Experience working with youth is recommended, but not required.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Governor’s Institute on Alcohol and Substance Abuse, Inc. (www.governorsinstitute.org), is seeking an individual for a contracted position to serve as a program coordinator. Approximately one-half of the individual’s time will be spent as a youth coordinator, working with the lead project director. In addition, this individual will have administrative and operations responsibilities for the larger organization, as well as responsibility for much of the organization’s public relations and non-technical writing. The position is located in Raleigh at the Institute office on the Centennial Campus of North Carolina State University.


The Governor’s Institute on Alcohol and Substance Abuse, Inc., is a private non-profit organization that provides education, research and evaluation on substance abuse and mental health issues. It is affirmative action and equal opportunity employer.


RESPONSIBILITIES

The Program Coordinator will be a new contract position at the Governor’s Institute. The person will report to the Associate Executive Director for Operations and to the lead Youth Project Director and will provide support to a variety of individuals serving as the professional staff of our small organization. General responsibilities of the position follow below.


HWTF Youth Coordinator


  • Assist in the coordination of meetings for the Wake County TRU Youth Council
  • Provide technical assistance to school TRU clubs in Wake County High Schools
  • Work with Wake County restaurants to adopt smoke free policies
  • Provide “Alternative to Suspension Program” to Wake County High Schools
  • Create and participate in media events as directed by the Grant organization
  • Travel to local meetings (as needed) and to one national meeting per year


Public Relations / Internal Communication


  • Answer phone and direct callers to appropriate people
  • Serve as organization’s point of contact for public and media
  • Write for and publish Monthly Newsletter
  • Supply content for organization’s websites (Main and Project oriented)
  • Coordinate with project directors to plan and host meetings
  • Assist program staff with travel planning
  • Maintain accurate board communications and board meeting planning


Administrative/Operations Responsibilities


  • Coordinate communications with financial administrator regarding program invoices and payables.
  • Code all financial documents related to program functions.
